Report an Absence

Regular attendance is vital for successful learning. Absences when a child is ill or is in danger of spreading any infectious condition are excused if parents notify the office within 72 hours. Parents should make every effort to develop good attendance habits.

Tardies are also detrimental to learning. School starts at 7:55 AM. A tardy of 30 minutes or more without a valid excuse is considered truant.  A valid excuse may be a medical/dental appointment or illness. 

REPORTING AN ABSENCE: 

To clear an absence please do one of the following:

  • Call the school office at (925)458-6101 during school hours.

  • Call the 24 hour hotline at 925-682-8000 extension 7958.

  • Email the School Secretary at malpicaj@mdusd.org

  • Send a note to the office with your student.

Please leave the following information when reporting your student's absence: 

  1. Child's first and last name (spell the last name) 
  2. Date(s) of absence
  3. Teacher and/or room number 
  4. Reason for absence (Illness, family emergency, funeral, vacation, etc.)
  5. Your name and relationship to the child
